Your website is a reflection of you or your company. If your site is a personal site then giving it your personality is fine. If your website is going to be a company site you need to keep your personal flavors to a minimum and do what your viewers would expect from a company like yours.
The first thing I do when I take on a new client is Google their keywords and see what comes up. I look at the first few results and check their keywords, website style, social media and more. The goal, of course, of any site is to get it on the first page of search engines. Determining who your competition is and what is working for them tells me where to start.
Search engine optimization is not an exact science. You cannot buy your way to the top you have to design your way to the top. Using the correct keywords, content, images, social media and marketing all go into helping you land on the first page. Yet, even though you may be doing everything right you may still end up on the lower pages.
Why can't I be on page one? It depends on your business. Let's say your company sells handmade gift bags and you're just starting up. Hundreds of other websites have already developed a history that the search engines have been tracking for years. You are not going to be able to compete with that using a brand new site. You will need to develop a customer base using social media, blogging, advertising and word of mouth. If you have a plan and execute it well you'll find your site moving up the list quickly.
Here are just a few of the latest sites I've done. If you would like a complete list please contact me.
Perez Forensic Strategies is a recent site with a unique scrolling sidebar. It works well for sites with not much content and provides a quick call-to-action for the viewer. Click here to see a current project using the same sidebar. Logo and site are all mine.
Twin Cities Massage Spa is a new site that just went up. I didn't write the content but everything else is mine. It's a nice, clean site with a lot of depth. We did a CMS so the client can update the site as needed.
The Capri Italian Restaurants in Indianapolis and soon to come to South Bend. The header and entire website were done by me.
Tacos Without Borders is an Indianapolis based food truck. I did the logo and website. His competition got a huge head start on him but he's moving up. He is learning to use Facebook and Twitter to increase his exposure and his success is reflecting that.
Common Purse is a philanthropic project of one of my repeat clients. Light and simple the site hosts projects that are looking for donors. I also did the logo for this site.
Stop Protestant Predators is another project for the above client. She has a passion for helping those that have been abused and exposing their abusers. This is a WordPress site that is not live yet but will be shortly. I also did Magnesium Shoppe for this client.
Living Violence Free is a site that helps those that suffer from domestic abuse. I also did the logo for this project.
Indiana Property Tax Consultants is another repeat client of mine. All the sites I've done for him are bright and full of content. I also did Electronic Cigarette Comparison and Cost Segregation Associates for this client.
Matteo's Italian Restaurant is a restaurant in Noblesville. I did not do the logo for this site.
Blue Water Group is a construction consultation site. Big images with a subtle background work on this one.
Pilates Indy is a fitness studio in Indianapolis. The client wanted something simple, yet bold and the colors are those used in her studio. I like the navigation area.
The Personal Concierge is a concierge and cleaning service. The client wanted bold imagery and we used her existing logo.
Simply Sophisticated Spaces is a very simple site for a decorator. She wanted something very simple and clean. I did not do the logo.
King's Image is a fine men's clothier in Indianapolis. I love the navigation we used in this site and their sister site Stephen's Women's Formalwear.
Sheila's Classy Tease is a WordPress Membership site. This fetish site is new and is still evolving.
Red Share Capital was a simple one-page flash site. The client wanted to get his message out there quickly and efficiently.
Wild Horses Salon is a current project. None of the links work yet, but I think we're off to a good start.
Write Now Indy is a site I did for a friend of mine that is a freelance writer/photographer/blogger in Indianapolis. He's a little quirky and so is the site!
